The Institute of Cancer Research
From its foundation in 1909 as a small research department of The Royal Marsden Hospital, The
Institute has grown to become one of the world’s foremost independent cancer research organisations. The continued collaborative work between The Institute and The Royal Marsden ensures that discoveries at the lab bench are rapidly and directly translated into patient therapies. Each year more than 450 projects take place to improve evaluation and treatment of patients, to research the causes of cancer, and to develop and test new anti-cancer drugs.

Kingston Hospital Cancer Unit
This is a unique three-way partnership between Kingston Hospital, The Royal Marsden Hospital and Macmillan Cancer Support. The Unit will include an outpatient diagnostic clinic, an outpatient chemotherapy treatment suite, a patient information library service, access to support services and a seminar room for education and support meetings.

Friends of The Royal Marsden
Volunteers have been helping out at the hospital since it opened, and in 1963 the Friends of the Royal Marsden group was officially formed. The group is made up of volunteers who help around the hospital and fundraise through ventures such as the gift and sweet shops, the tea bar, the secondhand book stall and the mobile shop. They also operate a free library for patients. Since 1974, the Friends have raised a staggering £3.38 million through various activities, enabling new amenities and equipment for the hospital, and further significant commitments are in the pipeline.
