Oak Centre for Children and Young People

Young cancer patient

The Royal Marsden’s vision is to be Europe’s leading centre for children and young people and the world-leader in paediatric drug development. To turn this vision into a reality, the hospital is expanding its existing children’s unit to create a new, state-of-the-art centre.

The Oak Centre for Children and Young People will be the most advanced of its kind in the country. There will be expanded day care and outpatient services, as well as brand new age-appropriate inpatient accommodation for children and teenagers.

Drug development

The Centre will have the only facility in the UK dedicated to the early clinical evaluation of new therapies for childhood cancers.

Extra capacity

All of these improvements will help The Royal Marsden provide a much more efficient and responsive service for young people. The extra capacity will help the hospital meet growing demand, reduce delays in treatment, and provide an adaptable space that’s more suited to children and their needs.

Building work began in April 2009. The new Centre will be ready to open in 2011.
