Big “C” Walk 2009

The annual Big “C” Walk took place on 24 May 2009. The walk stretches across approximately eight miles over the south downs – Beachy Head to West Dean via Butts Brow and Jevington. It raises money for two charities: The Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign and St Wilfrid’s Hospice.

Donations are still coming in, but the walkers hope to raise £4,000.

Tony Griffiths of Langney Rise, Eastbourne, organised this year’s event after his wife Patricia lost her battle with cancer at the age of 62. Tony said: “I have such admiration for the care Patricia received at The Royal Marsden and St Wilfrid’s Hospice. I want to raise as much as possible to help these two professional and caring organisations.

It was during his time at The Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea, where his wife was being treated, that he met the actress Rita Tushingham, whose Daughter Aisha was also having treatment. This year Rita, Aisha and family also joined the Big “C” Walk to raise more money for these two charities.

Last year’s event

Last year over 90 people took part in the Big “C” Walk which was started by Eastbourne MP Nigel Watterson (he and his family took part this year). £4,000 was raised, split between The Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign and St Wilfrid’s Hospice.
