The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust accepts referrals from both GPs and other hospitals for treatment of common and rare cancers. We also accept referrals for second opinions on cases where either diagnosis or treatment is difficult or when patients feel that a second opinion would be helpful. Sometimes second opinions are provided by correspondence only.
Detailed information on the types of cancer treated at The Royal Marsden can be found in the Directory of Services.
All patients are given individual outpatient appointment times and 95% of patients are seen by a consultant on their first outpatient visit. Outpatient clinic arrangements, such as joint consultant clinics, ensure that a wide range of specialist expertise is available at any one time.
If you have any questions regarding what services the Trust offers or how to arrange a referral, please contact us.
Private care
Patients seeking a private referral are advised to discuss this with the individual consultant’s office. The Private Patients’ Customer Services Manager can advise you who to contact. For more information, see the
private patients section of the website.
Making a referral
All NHS patients require a referral letter from their doctor. Self-referrals are accepted by some consultants for private patients. Referrals should be sent to our central office:
Central Referrals Office
The Royal Marsden Hospital
Downs Road
Sutton SM2 5PT
Fax: 020 8661 3143
Please note that emails are only accepted from other nhs.net addresses to ensure patient confidentiality.
Since January 2006 referrals have been accepted through the Choose and Book system. There is more information at
www.chooseandbook.nhs.uk.
The Trust also accepts 'requests for advice' via Choose and Book should another healthcare professional have an oncology query but has no need for a formal appointment.
