National Cancer Leadership Programme 2009

A ten-day programme visiting four locations across the UK!

Are you passionate about developing cancer services?

Do you want to develop the skills to push yourself and others to even greater performance levels?

Do you want to work alongside cancer professionals who are committed to  making a difference in their professional and personal lives?

Do you want to be an inspirational leader who can build commitment in others?

If yes, then this is the leadership programme for you!

This unique programme is built around the individual learning needs of the participants—it’s a programme which is about YOU,  and developing your skills to make a real difference.

We will use a range of tools to identify your leadership strengths and weaknesses.     Building on this, we will work with you to develop strategies and actions to develop your leadership skills.

Some of the leadership concepts addressed during the programme include:

  • Creating a vision for your team members and colleagues
  • Developing followship—building commitment from others
  • Implementing a vision—adopting systematic and organised approach
  • Following through—control and feedback strategies
  • Achieving results—exerting influence
  • Being an effective team player.

Alongside sessions on theory we will work with you to develop practical skills which will make you a capable, credible and confident leader.   You will work alongside professionals from across the United Kingdom.   You will also meet a range of high profile leaders who are making a difference on a daily basis.

The residential nature of this programme allows you to disengage from the workplace, giving time to adapt concepts and strategies to your own personal circumstances.

This inspirational  programme demands a great deal, but the personal and professional outcomes are well worth it!

The course will include workshops, masterclasses and visits to organisations across the United Kingdom.

Outcomes for organisations

Many organisations have already benefited from the increased skill level and motivation of participants on this important programme. Upon completion, participants will have had the opportunity to increase their understanding of the context in which strategic leaders need to operate, and to enhance their leadership abilities.

This will mean that key leaders are:

  • Clear about the leadership practices needed in the cancer care field and have a baseline for measuring their improvement
  • More politically aware and effective at influencing strategic cancer policy and professional agendas.

This is an important programme for any organisation providing or commissioning cancer services that wishes to develop key leaders.
