Membership Council

The Membership Council plays a key role in the governance of the Trust, meeting four times a year.  It has the following key roles:

  • Guardianship - ensuring that the Trust operates in a way that fits its statement of intent and complies with its terms of authorisation
  • Strategic - advising on the longer term direction to assist the Board of Directors in developing strategy
  • Advisory - providing the Trust Board and management with the patient, carer, member of public and other stakeholder perspectives to inform their planning and decision-making.

In addition, the Membership Council has statutory duties in line with the constitution including approving the appointment of the Chair and Non-Executive Directors of the Board of Directors. 

Elected Councillors

The balance of Councillors on the Membership Council are elected by patient, carer and public members of the Trust.  Four additional Councillors are elected by staff of the Trust.

On your behalf, your elected councillors:

  • Represent the interests of members
  • Influence decisions about spending and service developments
  • Appoint the chair and the Non-Executive Directors of the Board of Directors.

 

Nominated Councillors

A number of Councillors are nominated by and represent the views of our stakeholders and partner organisations, including The Institute of Cancer Research, the two Cancer Networks and four Primary Care Trusts we work with, Primary Care Referrers, Cancer Research UK and Thames Valley University.
