What you can do to help

With any flu-like illness there are some good practices that can help reduce the risk of spreading the virus to others:

  • Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, using a clean tissue.
  • Throw away the used tissue quickly and carefully.
  • Wash your hands afterwards with soap and warm water.
  • Stay at home if you have a cough and a fever.

Coming into hospital

As with any other virus or illness, our advice is:

  • If you are coming in for a routine outpatient appointment and have flu symptoms, please reschedule your appointment.
  • If you are due to be admitted to hospital and have symptoms of flu, please call the number on your admission letter or the ward where you are to be admitted for advice.
  • If you are in hospital, any relatives or friends with flu-like symptoms should not visit.
  • Do keep any appointments if you are symptom-free.

Relatives and other visitors

If you are at all unwell please do not visit friends or relatives in hospital.
