JOB TITLE: Community Fundraising Events Executive

GRADE: 4

HOURS OF WORK: 37.5 per week

CONTRACT: One year fixed term contract (maternity cover)

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Director of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity

RESPONSIBLE TO: Head of Community and Corporate Fundraising

LOCATIONSutton (may be required to work in London on occasion)

LIAISES WITH:

Community Fundraising Events, Database, Major Gifts & Capital Appeal, Individual Giving, Events, Marketing, Communications and Digital teams. Charity Finance Team, Associate Director, Director of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, charity donors and supporters, third party suppliers, agencies and Medical Staff. 

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for raising money from individual fundraisers either by promoting our own events or supporting them to organise their own activities. 

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To promote and maintain existing Royal Marsden Cancer Charity events, to include The Marsden March and any new fundraising initiatives
  • Promoting The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and its events to new audiences and convert leads into new supporters for the charity
  • Contribute towards and implement a strategy to retain and develop the support of existing fundraisers so that they stay engaged with The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity
  • To work with the Community Fundraising Events Manager to explore ways of developing event fundraising, including new mass participation events, initiatives and product development
  • In collaboration with the Marketing team, develop appropriate engagement methods to inspire and secure support from fundraisers, including liaising with and managing suppliers as appropriate
  • Working with the Community Fundraising Event Team to monitor and analyse fundraising activities which will enable the Community Fundraising Events Manager to develop the budget and strategy for the team
  • Process income, bank and acknowledge donations in accordance with The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity policies and procedure

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To work with the Community Fundraising Events Manager to create, develop and implement a new and exciting cost effective event portfolio
  • Ensure that all event activity is run in compliance with the Institute of Fundraising and Fundraising Regulator’s rules and regulations, and to ensure that all records are maintained in compliance with relevant legislation
  • Ensure the fundraising database (Raiser's Edge) is maintained in line with best practice and internal processes, and ensure data integrity is maintained
  • Provide reports and information relating to activity, performance and supporters etc as necessary and upon request
  • Work towards objectives set by the Head of Community and Corporate Fundraising and Community Fundraising Events Manager in accordance with the charity business plan and three year strategy
  • Attend key fundraising events as required, this includes compulsory attendance at The Marsden March and London Marathon
  • Working within The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity’s policies, procedures and adhering to legal frameworks
  • Be responsible for keeping abreast of charity law and any changes that take place

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

EXPERIENCE

 

Essential

  • At least one year working in a fundraising role
  • Experience of communicating with a wide range of people both face-to-face and over the telephone, for example customer relations and dealing with enquiries
  • Experience of handling complaints from customers/supporters and of finding solutions
  • Experience of using Raisers Edge and data entry e.g. inputting addresses and details of financial donations
  • Experience of working as part of a team

 Desirable

  • Experience of securing financial support for a cancer-related charity
  • Experience of working in Event Fundraising

SKILLS/ABILITIES/KNOWLEDGE

 

Essential

  • Knowledge of the charity sector and in particular issues that relate to community fundraising
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation in order to operate within a legal framework
  • Knowledge of other competing charities and a keen interest to ensure you stay abreast of the external environment
  • Written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate with a wide range of people from senior executives to volunteers
  • Ability to deal with emotional situations with tact and sensitivity
  • Ability to be creative and spot opportunities to raise money
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to use own initiative
  • Organisational skills and ability to manage a busy workload
  • Ability to produce written material to the very highest standard
  • Computer literate, particularly in Word, Excel and Raisers Edge

 Desirable

  • Hold a clean driving licence and own car
