Palliative care

Cancer patient at home

We are helping to fund several palliative care projects that will benefit patients towards the end of their lives.

Redeveloping Horder Ward

The Royal Marsden’s vision is to create a haven for patients who are nearing the end of their lives, somewhere they will receive world-class levels of medical care in an environment that caters for their specific needs.

Horder Ward in Chelsea is being redeveloped to create a more attractive, comfortable and patient-focused environment with state-of-the-art facilities. These will not only reflect and influence modern palliative care but also support ongoing research into improved pain and symptom control.

Hospital2Home

Constantly moving between hospital and home can be enormously disruptive and distressing for patients being treated for cancer. That’s why The Royal Marsden developed Hospital2Home (H2H), a scheme so successful it is now being rolled out across London.

By improving communication between hospital and community services, the scheme gives patients in palliative care more confidence about choosing to be cared for at home.

Specialist team

H2H will be supported by a specialist team funded by supporters of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and based at the hospital. This team will make sure that patients choosing to move from hospital to home can be sure that their local healthcare services will be ready and waiting.

The scheme gives patients in palliative care more confidence about choosing to be cared for at home, by improving communication between hospital and community services.
