“In 2025 it was five years since my diagnosis, and I have now been cancer-free for over four years! I’ll be forever grateful everyone at The Royal Marsden. They saved my life.”

Fran

Breast cancer patient at The Royal Marsden

Fran

Fran was referred to The Royal Marsden in 2020 after she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. At just 25 years old, she was told she only had two years to live.

After receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy, she was given hormone therapy, alongside a new targeted drug therapy called abemaciclib. The drug should help to stop the cancer growing and spreading in the body.

Thankfully, Fran responded incredibly well to the drug and celebrated her 30th birthday last year “cancer-free”.

It is thanks to research at The Royal Marsden that Fran could receive the life-saving abemaciclib combination treatment.

However, for breast cancer patients who don’t respond to existing treatments, such as abemaciclib and for patients with other cancers, there’s still so much more work to be done.
