You help make our breakthroughs and surgical advancements possible
"We would not have been able to set up our robotic programme without The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity's support."
Ms Marielle Nobbenhuis is Head of Surgery and a gynaecological oncology surgeon at The Royal Marsden.
As one of a few national gynaecological surgeons who operate using robotic surgery, Ms Nobbenhuis trains other gynaecological surgeons on how to perform and set up a robotic surgery programme. Gynaecological oncologists from across the UK and Europe come to The Royal Marsden to observe and learn from her procedures, and she visits other centres to provide one on-one teaching.
Ms Nobbenhuis is training the next generation of surgeons to use state-of-the art surgical robots and help improve cancer patients' recovery time and wellbeing after surgery.

We spoke to Ms Nobbenhuis about the difference donations to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity are making and this is what she said:
"The Charity has helped us for more than ten years, for example by supporting us to operate with a robot on patients and also train our fellows and nurses."
"By using the robots we see everything in 3D. So it feels like you're immersed in a patient's pelvis or abdomen and you're able to fully control the operations. And this has resulted in a quicker recovery for patients, quicker return to normal activity, less blood loss, less pain and less length of stay."
"We are lucky to have three robots with three simulators, so, we've been able to train a lot of our junior doctors who then end up as consultants in other hospitals in Ireland, the UK, or somewhere in Europe or the US."
"The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity has been instrumental in so many projects. I hope they will be able to help us carry on this progress, so we can continue to improve more patients' lives."
