Your questions answered

How do I pay a gift in a Will to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity?

Our Gifts in Wills team are here to help. We can authorise a receipt and discharge of a gift in a Will to an executor.

When a gift in a Will benefits the Charity, it should be sent to our registered address.

Please make any cheques payable to 'The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity' and send to:

Our team will ensure that the gift is directed according to the wishes and purpose specified in the Will.

Please get in touch to make a payment in another way, such as a bank transfer. We’re happy to help with any queries you have.

What information do I need to provide?

If you are an executor, let us know as soon as possible so that we can help you with the next steps to pay in a gift in a Will to us.

When you send us the information about a gift in a Will, please include:

  • Title and full name of the deceased
  • Last address of the deceased
  • Date of death
  • The executor’s name and contact details (phone, email and address)

How is tax calculated?

The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity is a UK-registered charity. We are exempt from paying Inheritance Tax, so gifts in a Will to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity are deducted from the estate before Inheritance Tax is calculated.

Depending on the type and size of gift, this could result in a lower rate of Inheritance Tax for non-charitable beneficiaries of the estate.

The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity is also exempt from Capital Gains Tax. This means we can reclaim Income Tax that has been deducted at source from gifts made to us.

However, please note that Gift Aid can’t be added to a gift in a Will.

We understand that calculating tax due on an estate, particularly during a distressing time, can be complicated. Please get in touch with our Gifts in Wills team for support.

How do I administer property or shares in a Will?

Before you start, please get in touch to discuss the process with a member of our team.

Ideally, we prefer to receive the sale proceeds of property or shares which are gifted to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity in a Will.

As each case is different, please get in touch with us first before actioning the transfer or sale of the property or shares.
